Essex Highways has responded to renewed calls for changes to the junction at Lower Burnham Road, following another collision this morning (September 1).

Two vehicles collided near the junction between Lower Burnham Road and Fambridge Road/B1010 shortly after 6.30am.

The recent spate of incidents, including a fatal collision last month, has intensified residents' calls for something to be done about the accident hotspot.

An Essex Highways spokesperson told Nub News: "Essex Highways has an established protocol after any fatal collision on the highway network, having received notification of such an incident from Essex Police. Accordingly, the Road Safety Engineering team will conduct a full investigation on behalf of the highway authority at the location of the recent collisions.

"This investigation will run parallel to that of the Essex Police Fatal Collision Investigation Unit.

"As part of our investigation, a full review of the highway infrastructure and surrounding environment is undertaken to consider any potential highway-related contributory factors in the causation of the collision."

A nearby resident captured this morning's incident on CCTV:

"As part of the investigation process we also review the previous 10 years collision data within proximity to the incident location," the Essex Highways spokesperson continued.

"This review is key to determine if there is a historic incidence of collisions at the location. If a clear collision pattern or trend emerges in relation to these collisions which can be treated by engineering measures, a 'remedial scheme' can be put forward for design and construction funding.

"Once completed, the Essex Highways collision investigation report is provided to Essex Police where it may be used as supplementary evidence in a Coroners Court or criminal court proceedings.

"For this reason, we cannot release the findings and recommendations of the report until after these proceedings have taken place."
