Construction has started on replacement play equipment in the garden play area of Maldon's Promenade Park.

The majority of the original equipment has now been removed, with installation of the new equipment beginning this week.

The brand-new, "inclusive" play area is being delivered in partnership with play equipment provider KOMPAN, and is part-funded by the Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Described as a "sensory garden" in the plans, the sea-themed play area includes ramps, slides, interactive art, swings, and merry-go-round.

It is expected to be ready for public use in October.

The construction is part of a 'major' transformation of play equipment in Maldon and Burnham by KOMPAN, with Burnham's new play area now nearing completion.

Construction is expected to start later in September to replace play equipment in Maldon Promenade Park's 'Valley' play area, after the Galleon Ship was decided to have "reached the end of its design life".

At the time of announcing the transformation, a spokesperson from Maldon District Council said: "This project is a testament to our commitment to nurturing our parks and open spaces, ensuring they remain places where imagination and play continue to thrive."
