Work began on the replacement pontoon yesterday (August 5), with construction set to take up to two weeks.

The replacement pontoon will be reinstated on the same footprint as before, but includes additional safety features including perimeter handrails and new non-slip decking.

By the end of Day 2 of construction, the T-section of the pontoon has already been put in place alongside the old pile guides.

The original pontoon, a much-loved asset of the Burnham-on-crouch waterfront, was damaged "beyond repair" by Storm Eunice in February 2022.

It had historically been used by the foot passenger ferry, as well as by families for crabbing and socialising.

The new pontoon is set to be in place before the start of Burnham Week.
