The skies above Essex were once again filled with aircraft from Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome last Saturday (September 16).
However, those aircraft were very different to the ones that have been seen flying from the historic site over the past 100 years.
Large model aircraft of all shapes and sizes attracted pilots and visitors from across the country. They included internationally known flyer Rory Tooley, who has demonstrated his model aircraft handling skills around the world.
Ian Flint, Chief Executive Officer of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, said: "It was a terrific opportunity for visitors to see some incredible models being put through their paces.
"The wonderful weather just added to the overall enjoyment, and we are so grateful to the modellers and their helpers who worked so hard to make it a day to remember."
Stow Maries saw hundreds of visitors attend the show. When not transfixed by the displays in the air or on the ground, guests wandered the site's award-winning exhibitions and hangars of aircraft.
The popular museum also welcomed local favourites, the Chelmsford Society of Model Engineers, and their mini-traction engines, as well as Southend and Gipping Valley model clubs exhibiting their painstakingly recreated crafts.
The event was a major fundraiser which supports work to preserve and protect Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome. Situated between Chelmsford and Maldon in the Essex countryside, the aerodrome features the largest collection of Royal Flying Corps buildings in the world.
Last month, more than 150 dog lovers and their canine friends came together for a dog show at the Great War Aerodrome.
