More than 150 dog lovers and their canine friends came together for a dog show at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome last Sunday (August 27).

Under bright blue skies and gleaming sunshine, pampered pooches competed for a variety of prizes, from 'Best Sopwith Pup' to the 'Oldie'. Alongside 'Best in Show' was an award for Stow Maries' Scruffiest Hound.

Essex breeder Sara Thompson, from SunnyPride Ridgebacks, judged the dog show. The competition welcomed more than 80 entries.

Winners received medals, ribbons and prizes from local firms Francis James & Partners Chartered Accountants, Gladwell's Pet & Country Supplies and Maldon Salt.

Stow Maries Bookings Officer Jackie Winney said: "Seeing so many new visitors to our site was brilliant.

"We're great fans of dogs here at Stow, and this event was born out of our successful Dog-Friendly Fridays. To have this prove so popular in its first year is a real boost!"

Dog-Friendly Fridays are held on the first and last Friday of each month.

Organisers say the day was "a great success", with lots of fun for entrants, spectators and their furry friends.

The event raised funds to help preserve and protect the First World War aerodrome.
