Essex Police has arrested a man on suspicion of sexual assault following a 'spiking' incident at a Maldon High Street pub last Friday (September 15).

The man was also arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance.

Another man, in his twenties, had already been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance. Both men have been released on bail.

Emergency services were called to the Rose & Crown pub at around 11pm, where a woman had been taken ill. She was transported to Broomfield Hospital via ambulance.

At the time, a source told Nub News several punters were questioned by police, and an off-duty bouncer's belongings had been searched.

"Enquiries remain ongoing," a spokesperson for Essex Police told Nub News.

Both Essex Police and the Ambulance Service were unable to provide an update on the condition of the woman who was hospitalised.
