An artist from Maldon has won First Prize at ACL Essex's Christmas card competition, thanks to her "simply wonderful" Paddington-bear inspired artwork.

Charlie Moore's Christmas card design is inspired by the beloved fictional bear, who gained greater prominence for the part he played during the Platinum Jubilee.

The artwork is entitled 'Royal Robin' and features Paddington Bear walking along the riverside at Promenade Park, Maldon. A robin can be seen greeting Paddington while wearing a crown – a nod to the Imperial State Crown worn by the late Queen at her coronation in 1953.

Charlie says she is "so pleased" to have had her artwork selected.

She told Nub News: "I'm happy that our delightful traditional riverside town, with this charming visitor talking a stroll, is being seen across Essex!

"He's missing Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II, who popped back in the form of a robin to bid him farewell!"

In the background of the artwork, we see a Thames Sailing Barge, which has long been an iconic symbol in Maldon, along with the historic Steam Tug Brent. St Mary's Church can also be spotted in the distance.

The competition was voted on by the public, with more than 20 other entries vying for the top spot.

In their announcement, a spokesperson for Adult Community Learning (ACL) Essex said: "Congratulations Charlie! Your Paddington-inspired artwork is simply wonderful."

ACL Essex is the largest provider of adult education in the county.

Charlie's artwork is available to purchase on her website.
