Maldon: Breeze Love Songs to broadcast live from Salvation Army shop this Saturday
Breeze Love Songs, formerly Chelmer Radio, is gearing up for a live broadcast this Saturday (June 10) from a shop in Maldon High Street.
From 10am until 1pm, the station will broadcast from the Salvation Army charity shop. David Baker, founder and DJ at the Wickham Bishops-based station, will play some chilled music "for a sunny day", and chat to local volunteers to mark Volunteers' Week. The celebration is held annually in June and highlights the contribution millions of people make across the UK, through volunteering in their communities.
David will also speak to recently-elected Liberal Democrat Councillor Kevin Jennings about his community work in the Maldon District. As manager of the Salvation Army shop, Kevin attended a a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, where he met Princess Beatrice. She told Kevin The Salvation Army meant "a great deal" to The Royal Family, especially as Princess Eugenie is active in her support of the church and the charity's anti-modern slavery work.
In February, the station changed its name from Chelmer Radio to Breeze Love Songs in a shakeup aimed at expanding its coverage.
David said: "Breeze Love Songs continues to be very popular locally, even after the rebrand, and we are encouraging more businesses to use our radio station to get their messages out there."
