Young fundraisers from the Maldon Carnival Court raised a record amount of money for Children in Need this year, despite having to change their fundraising approach due to Covid-19.

Members of the court usually hold a cake sale each year to raise money for the BBC charity, which works to remove the barriers facing children and young people in the UK so that they can thrive.

As the cake sale could not go ahead this year due to Covid-19, the Maldon Carnival Court princesses decided to raffle off a huge Pudsey bear.

The princesses and their siblings stood outside Morrisons Maldon, on Limebrook Way, last Friday (19 November) dressed as Pudsey bears to give residents the chance to win the prize while raising money for the charity.

They also raised money the week before by standing with the collection bucket outside Greggs, on the High Street.

Thanks to generous donations from residents and the fundraisers' determination, Maldon Carnival raised £1,024 for the charity - a new record.
