The organisers of Maldon Market have cancelled this week's event due to Storm Ciarán, which is set to hit the district this evening (November 1).

Rain and winds of up to 80 miles per hour are expected, prompting a Yellow Weather Warning from the Met Office. The warning will remain in place for the Maldon District until Thursday at 11.59pm.

The market was due to open at 9am on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Maldon Market said: "We are really sorry to have to cancel, but obviously safety comes first.

"The good news is we have 22 fantastic stalls all booked in for the following week on November 9, including a brand new bread stall selling sourdoughs, focaccia, croissant and samosas."

Following public demand, the market's trading hours have also been extended so local shoppers can visit during their lunch break. From next week, the market will be open from 9am until 2pm.

The market officially returned to Butt Lane Car Park on October 12, featuring a new line-up of stalls from local businesses.
