Maldon Town Mayor Andrew Lay has invited residents for "a morning of coffee and cake" in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, at the Town Hall on September 29.

From 10am until noon, attendees will indulge in an array of freshly brewed tea and coffee, accompanied by cakes and treats provided by the community. A small donation is requested for the refreshments, all of which will directly benefit the Macmillan Cancer Support.

Last year, the event raised £573.75 for the charity, and it is hoped the town council will achieve "such a generous contribution" again this year.

Councillor Lay said: "Following the success of last year's Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Town Hall, I am pleased to be supporting this worthwhile cause again. It was wonderful to see so many residents pop in to help raise funds and deliver cake donations."

"The people of Maldon are very generous, so I hope we can raise even more than last year."

Cllr Lay says the cause is personal to him and to the Town Council, as their "dear friend" and former Maldon Town Mayor David Ogg died last September, following a short illness.

To ensure the success of this year's event, Cllr Lay is seeking contributions in the form of cakes, biscuits and savoury snacks. Those who wish to contribute are asked to contact the Mayor's Secretary by September 22. Residents can get in touch via email or call 01621 857373.

"I would like to express my gratitude in advance for the community's support and enthusiasm in making this event a meaningful gesture for those affected by cancer," Cllr Lay added.

"I look forward to meeting people on the day and enjoying their company over a cup of tea and cake."
