Heritage events in Maldon over the weekend proved to be very successful.
They were part of 'Heritage Open Days', England's largest festival of history and culture.
Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life.
In Malton events took place at the Maeldune Heritage Centre and at St Giles Ruins in the town, an ancient site featuring the remaining walls of a chapel was founded to provide services to those suffering from leprosy.
Sunday's event at the ruins drew more than 100 visitors, who were able to walk the site, read about its history and witness entertainment provided by a Medieval storyteller.
There was also the opportunity to see Maldon in Bloom's latest project, the planted raised herb beds.
At the Maeldune Centre members of the Maldon Society hosted displays about the town's heritage over Saturday and Sunday and members said they were delighted with the response, which showed that all age groups were interested in seeing and hearing about Maldon's history.
Meanwhile the Society continues to seek a new committee members.
An extra committee member is sought to join an active friendly team of nine, to help with various correspondence. (Minute taking and membership correspondence are already undertaken by other committee members).
The only requirements are a love of Maldon, ability to email and create documents, and if possible attendance at 10 committee meeting a year, currently held on the third Thursday late afternoons.
