The new replacement pontoon in Burnham-on-Crouch is set to open to the public Friday evening, Town Councillor says.

Burnham-on-Crouch Town Councillor, Wendy Stamp, announced on Facebook today (August 20) that the much-loved pontoon's construction will end this week, with residents eager to try it out.

The pontoon had historically been used by the foot passenger ferry, as well as by families for crabbing and socialising, before being 'damaged beyond repair' during Storm Eunice in February 2022.

The replacement will open to the public in the evening of Friday, August 23, just under 20 days after construction began.

While the main structure is already in place, access gates have been shut while the pile guides await being painted and signage is put up.

This means it will be fully open in time for Burnham Week, when hundreds will take to the Quayside to enjoy a week of sailing and activities.
