The Maldon Town Policing Team have stepped up patrols in Burnham-on-Crouch in the face of increasing reports of anti-social behaviour and drug use.

The first stage of an operation to tackle bad behaviour in the town was launched on Saturday evening, March 1, with officers patrolling specific areas on concern in the town.

Patrols specifically focused on tackling anti-social behaviour around Burnham-on-Crouch train station, an area increasingly generating safety concerns with residents on social media.

While on patrol officers stopped and searched numerous individuals - many of whom were under the age of 18. Drug paraphernalia was located on many of those searched.

Sergeant Dalby of the Maldon Town Team said "Burnham on Crouch is a safe town to live and work in.

"People should be allowed to walk about the town and return home on public transport, without the fear and intimidation of groups congregating and causing anti-social behaviour.

"We will use a variety of tactics which will include high visibility patrols as well as liaison with our partner agencies to ensure that those individuals causing  anti-social behaviour will be prevented from doing so.  We will use all of our powers to tackle any identified criminality."

The top reported crimes in Burnham-on-Crouch in December 2024 include violence and sexual offences, public order offences, vehicle crime and antisocial behaviour.
