Barclays has officially opened banking facilities in South Woodham Ferrers and Burnham-On-Crouch, after branches in both towns closed.

The Burnham branch closed in August, as Barclays said only 20 customers used the branch regularly as the only way to do their banking. Following the closures, the bank has launched 'Barclays Local' branches in both towns to offer non-cash services to customers.

Maldon MP Sir John Whittingdale cut the ribbon to mark the opening of Barclays Local in South Woodham Ferrers.

He said: "I am delighted that with many banks closing their branches, Barclays customers will still be able to meet and talk to financial advisers in person. This is a great initiative by Barclays working with the Town Councils of South Woodham Ferrers and Burnham On Crouch."

In South Woodham, Barclays Local operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Champions Manor Hall. In Burnham, it is located in the Town Council offices in Chapel Road on Tuesday and Thursdays. While cash services for Barclays customers are available through the Post office, they can have face-to-face meetings with Barclays staff who can provide financial support and advice.

Since Barclays closed its Maldon High Street branch in August last year, Maldon District Council has hosted a pop-up cashless banking site at its offices. It is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 10am until 4pm.
