Burnham 1st XV travelled away to Old Brentwood's for a Presidents Shield quarter final match after a few weeks rest since their last winning league game.

Burnham started slowly and Old Brentwood's scored a well worked Try within the first 5 minutes . Burnham tried to play attacking rugby but errors and erratic passing saw all their efforts fall short and it was the opposition who scored next with a penalty.

This woke Burnham up and after some powerful running Joe Barr touched down in the 32nd minute duly converted by Jake Braybrook. This was followed shortly by an excellent try by Danny Howell after some exciting running.

Old Brentwood's answered almost immediately to score a converted try in the closing minutes of the first half. Burnham bounced straight back with a fine try by Ben Barr duly converted by Jake to make the half time score 19-15 in Burnham favour.

The second half started at a pace and Burnham scored a fantastic try by Sam Kelleher after a pacy run down the touch line and touched down near the posts aiding jakes kick which was converted.

However almost instantly the opposition came back with a try of their own making the rest of the game both nervy for both players and fans alike. Burnham worked hard and tight marking form the opposition and some unfortunate handling errors kept us at bat=y but Jake kept the scoreboard ticking over with 2 further penalties taking the Burnham score up to 32 Points.

As the game neared a conclusion a yellow card made the defensive effort even more critical for Burnham who conceded a late converted try but held out to win and exciting encounter 32 to 27.

Next Fixture – Semi Final Presidents Shield. TBC.
