The Burnham-on-Crouch Carnival Committee has announced this year's event will go ahead on September 30, thanks to a "generous commitment" from headline sponsor Monte Carlo Parks.

In March, there were fears the Carnival may be cancelled as organisers struggled to raise enough funds to hold it. However, the owners of Sea End Country Park and Rice & Cole Boatyard in Burnham have come forward with a generous sponsorship agreement.

Lorna Hart, Publicity and Sponsorship Officer for Burnham Carnival, described it as "a major event in the town's calendar, running since the late 1800s".

"The day isn't just for the local community either, as we see visitors come from all over Essex and beyond to enjoy the festivities," she said.

Organisers had discussed the possibility of a 'scaled down' carnival due to the rising costs of staging such a large event, but the event will now go ahead as planned.

Lorna added: "The generous support from Monte Carlo Homes and all our other fantastic sponsors, together with local donations, means we can now go full steam ahead and look forward to another amazing carnival day."

The news comes as the organisers of Maldon Carnival have announced this year's event will not go ahead, due to a lack of funding and volunteers.

But thanks to donations, the Burnham-On-Crouch Carnival Committee hopes to deliver an array of events and entertainment throughout the day. This will be capped off with the historic illuminated carnival procession through the town.

Monte Carlo Parks' Paul Skillen said: "We know how much the carnival means to our residents at Sea End Country Park and the wider community of Burnham on Crouch, so we were more than happy to step in and support this year's event."

Other sponsors include Aspire Body Transformations, Sonic Rail Services, The Anchor, The Ship, The Queens Head, The Victoria Inn, The White Hart, Kew Law, Phoenix Fireplaces, BBQ King, Hillside Nursery, Impamark, BSP Plumbing and Heating Services, and The Jolly Fryer.

Organisers are still raising funds, which can be donated via the Committee's JustGiving page. Volunteers are also needed to help set up and ensure the day runs smoothly. For more information, get in touch with Lorna via email.
