Hygiene Supervisor (Night Shift)
Location: Maldon, Essex
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to 37,000 per annum
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 PM - 5:00 AM (Night Shift)
Weekend Availability: Sometimes required.
Driving License & Own Transport: Essential due to location and working hours
About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Hygiene Supervisor to lead hygiene operations across the site. This crucial role will drive high hygiene standards, oversee compliance with regulations, and promote a culture of continuous improvement. You'll be leading a passionate hygiene team, working closely with the Head of Technical and other departments to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Hygiene Management: Ensure that the hygiene management system is in place and being followed across the site. Take ownership of the cleaning program, housekeeping, and housekeeping procedures to ensure site compliance with hygiene standards.
- Team Leadership: Motivate, guide, and manage the Hygiene team to consistently deliver excellent standards. Provide coaching and development to support individual performance and long-term success.
- Standards & Compliance: Establish and monitor hygiene processes, policies, and training to ensure compliance with BRCGS standards, food safety, and relevant hygiene legislation. Drive continuous improvement and audit the site regularly to ensure hygiene practices meet operational and regulatory standards.
- Root Cause Analysis & Problem-Solving: Investigate hygiene issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Work proactively to identify areas for improvement, ensuring a high level of cleanliness and safety.
- Collaboration Across Teams: Actively work with other departments to foster a positive hygiene culture. Attend management meetings and collaborate with line managers to align hygiene objectives with overall business goals.
- Health & Safety: Ensure strict adherence to all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures. Promote a behavioural safety culture by encouraging safe, hygienic working practices and escalating accidents/incidents as needed.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Manage the process of dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling machinery parts. Ensure that all equipment is maintained to the highest hygiene standards.
- Team Performance & Engagement: Conduct regular performance reviews, set goals, and provide feedback to the team. Manage personnel matters efficiently and collaborate with HR for absence management and talent development.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
Essential:
- Food Hygiene Level 3
- HACCP Level 3
- Proven experience in a food industry technical role
- Strong IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Dynamic Systems
- In-depth knowledge of BRC standards and Environmental Monitoring requirements
- Demonstrable experience leading a team and driving hygiene initiatives
- Strong understanding of cleaning chemicals, their functions, and their safe use
- Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing cleaning and hygiene programs
- Familiarity with food machinery dismantling, cleaning, and reassembly
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Health & Safety within a business
- Knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
- Site-specific training (machinery/chemicals) will be provided for the right candidate
