Ormiston Rivers Sixth Form celebrate ‘overall improvement’ in A-Level results

Post-16 students from Ormiston Rivers Academy, Burnham-on-Crouch have collected their A-Level results today (August 15), with Rivers Sixth Form celebrating an "overall improvement" from last year.

This year's students are the first to take the exams without any concessions since the pandemic.

One student particularly celebrating today includes Amelia Hague, who has achieved an A* in Maths and three As in Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. She will be going on to University of Exeter to study Maths.

Another student, Aidan White, achieved A* in Mathematics and three As in Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. He will be going on to University of Exeter, also to study Mathematics.

More notable results include:

  • Siobhan McQuillan has achieved A*'s in English Literature and History and an A in Sociology. She will be going on to Exeter University to study Law.
  • Milly Gilmour, who has achieved two A*s in history and the EPQ and two As in English literature and sociology. She will be going on to University of Sheffield to study Politics and Philosophy.
  • Ross Foster, who has achieved three As in mathematics, further mathematics and chemistry and a B in physics. He will be going on to the University of Nottingham to study Maths.
  • Amelia Barness, who has achieved two As in English literature and drama and two Bs in sociology and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). She will be going on to the University of Greenwich to study Drama with International Studies. 
  • Ellen Moore, who has achieved an A in biology and three Bs in chemistry, physics and mathematics. She will be going on to Warwick University to study Bioscience. 
  • Jake McCarthy, who has achieved Distinction* in sport, Distinction in business studies and an A in Finance. He will be going on to a Telecommunications apprenticeship at Immerbox.

Many individual subjects performed strongly including History, Sport, Finance and Media Studies.

Jo Williams, Principal at Ormiston Rivers Academy said: "I am delighted with our students' achievements. Their hard work has truly paid off, and they deserve every bit of celebration today.

"Thank you to our whole team of staff for their commitment to ensuring our students have the best opportunities to thrive after their time at school. We know they all have bright futures ahead and know they will excel in whatever they choose to pursue."

The students can now look forward to their exciting next steps, including at their chosen universities, on esteemed apprenticeships and into highly skilled employment.

UCAS have reported that 82% of students who have applied to university received a place at their first choice.
