A report into an outbreak of a killer bug in patients from Maldon and other areas of mid-Essex last year (2019) has found the infection could have been picked up earlier in some of those who died.

Maldon patients were among those infected with the invasive Group A streptococcal (iGAS) bug in the outbreak between February and August last year. Some of the victims contracted the disease through skin ulcers or wounds that were being treated and dressed by community nurses.

BADGER culling will not be allowed on any of Maldon's Essex Wildlife Trust land if government plans change to include the county, the charity has vowed.

The statement from the Essex trust comes after the Government decided to extend its culling initiative to six new counties this year, taking the expected kill to the biggest yet – 70,000 badgers nationally, equating to 35 per cent of the badger population.

A NEW report shows that Maldon district is in the bottom 20 per cent in the country for electric vehicle charging points.

The district is also in the bottom four out of 12 areas in the county for electric vehicle ownership. Electric vehicles include plug-in cars, vans and quadracycles.

A NEW video has been released showing the work of the marine police unit based in the Maldon district.

The short film showcases the marine crime-fighting team based at Burnham-on-Crouch, which includes six police officers, two special constables and a number of boats, including the 42ft launch Alert IV and Sentinel, a 24ft rigid inflatable boat or RIB. Alert IV is 25 years old and is the unit's longest-serving police vehicle. All the vessels fly a blue ensign flag.

MEMBERS of a Maldon church congregation welcomed a new minister at the weekend – with many of them joining the special service online.

The Rev Anne Sardeson was formally welcomed in the service at Maldon United Reformed Church (URC) on Market Hill on Saturday (5 September).
