PROPOSALS for a £7 million holiday park in Woodham Walter have been given the thumbs down by parish councillors over fears the plans would change the nature of the village.

Now Maldon District Council will decide the fate of the scheme to build 70 new holiday lodges at The Warren Estate after Woodham Walter Parish Council decided yesterday (Wednesday 5 August) to recommend that the planning application is rejected. There are currently 102 lodges at the site and the parish councillors believe there is no evidence to suggest a tourism demand for more.

HOPES for next year's Maldon Carnival procession are pinned on an end to the Covid-19 pandemic by next August - after the event was cancelled at the weekend for just the second time since World War Two.

The popular carnival, which saw hundreds of residents line the town centre's streets when it last ran in August 2018, had been going strong since 1895.

PLANS for a £7million holiday park development in Woodham Walter have been submitted to Maldon District Council.

The plans for the Warren Estate are for a total of 70 new holiday lodges at the site, which is situated in the village between Chelmsford and Maldon. Fifty of the new lodges will be for families and offer activity breaks, while the other 20 will be for adults only and offer short breaks.

SIXTY restaurants, cafes, coffee houses and pubs within five miles of Maldon town centre have registered for the Government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

From today (Monday, 3 August) diners eating out between Mondays and Wednesdays - right through until the end of the month – will get 50 per cent off their bill, up to a maximum of £10 per person, at any of the eating places taking part. The discount applies to food and non-alcoholic drinks only.
